Dear loves
Hello again. It is 2026 and I have a new project on the go. Scroll of the Year is simply a visual, textile diary or journal of moments and memories. Month by month I am documenting in fabric and thread small and simple joys, my feelings, dreams and hopes. From my heart and mind, to my sketch book and then to fabric, each image holds significance however small, in my day, life and world.

Reach, my word for the year is being pulled along by a golden bird. The word came to me as I saw an image of my arm reaching out to touch something. It is about reaching out for what I need and want in life and work. The song ‘Reach for the Stars’ by S Club 7 keeps popping into my mind so I’ll be adding little stars throughout.
The look of my work has developed and evolved into an illustrative style, created using just one strand of black embroidery thread on a background of collaged, preloved, vintage and remnant fabric. This way of working feels like home. I love it. Making work for just me has enabled me to hone my style and follow my inner delight, and now I am ready to share it with you.
So this is January in pictures. The captions will tell you a little bit about each image and it’s significance. Enjoy…

Birds pop up quite often in my work. This little one was found in a pile of preloved jewellery bits and bobs.

This might look like a ball of yarn, but it is a Babka, which is a bit like a brioche made from an enriched dough.
The candle with holder signifies the joy of dark evenings made cosy and calm with candlelight – a definite joy in Winter.

How many mugs of tea is it okay to drink every day? Asking for a friend. Tea is so comforting, especially in Winter.

Another Christmassy/New Year make. I really got back into baking and making at Christmas and in doing so I have added such joy to my life. And gifting them adds another layer of delight!

I love big knickers and I cannot lie! Listen, you won’t find anything resembling a length of string over here.

I’m still in London and a move is imminent. It has taken too long (almost 2 years), but the sea is calling.

As I hear them flying over my little garden in London, with party hats ready, I imagine they are calling me home.

A quirky glass vase, found when sorting through the shed. Every time it catches my eye it makes me smile. I love silly things.

My boy turned 18 this January. Gosh!

Inspired by a little brown bird hopping about in the garden, which may or may not have been a wren.

Many a happy moment has been had slowly stitching this scroll into existence.
If you head over to my Instagram (@lucyludreams), you will find a little video of the scroll so far.
Thank you for popping by.
Love and warmth always,
Lu xxx
